Level 3 Biosafety Laboratory
The Biosafety Level 3 (BL3) Laboratory at the URBM/FUNDP was designed in accordance with guidelines of the Federal Belgian government .
Inaugurated in 2004, this infrastructure of 120 m2 was built as “a box in a box” on the 6th floor of the Faculty of Medicine at the FUNDP.
Accessible through a double security airlock, the laboratory contains 3 fully equipped containment zones, a small animal facility and a central common zone.
In addition to 4 biosafety cabinets, the laboratory has several scientific equipments available among which:
- fluorescence microscopy;
- incubators (W and Wo C02);
- bioscreen;
- ultracentrifuge.
About 10 researchers can work there simultaneously.
Prior to using the BL3 laboratory, individuals are trained in the correct and safe use of the facility. Experimental protocols are reviewed to insure maximum safety of all planned experiments.
