Expertise and research interests

Prof. Thierry Deltombe is head of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department at the CHU UCL Namur (site Godinne). He is an active member of the Belgian PM&R board and of the European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine.

He is leading an interdisciplinary team devoted to the spasticity treatment. The group relies on a close collaboration between the departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic surgery, Anesthesiology and Neurology.

Their research focuses on spasticity assessement (diagnostic nerve block) and treatments (botulinum toxin and neurotomy).

Research projects

  • A randomized controlled trial of neuro-orthopaedic surgery versus botulinum toxin for spastic upper limb after stroke. Clinical trial by Deltombe T, Amon R, Leeuwerck M,
    Gustin T.
  • Survey of physician use of adjunct therapies following toxin administration for limb spasticity. Clinical trial by Deltombe T, Ashford S, Bayle N, Chemello E, Ip A, Jacinto J, Nayar M, Schillebeeckx F, Schinwelski M, Suzigan E, Teixeira J, Mills P.
  • Etude PATTERN (multi-Pattern TreaTment of uppEr and lower limb with iNcobotulinumtoxinA Prospective randomized, double-blind, placebocontrolled, multicenter study to investigate the efficacy and safety of NT 201 in the treatment of lower limb spasticity caused by stroke or traumatic brain injury in adult subjects, followed by an open label extension with or without combined upper limb treatment. Clinical trial by Deltombe T, Leeuwerck M, Gillain T.
