Congratulations to virologist Benoît Muylkens, elected "Namurois de l'année" 2020!

Every year, the city of Namur honors twelve personalities that provided a major added value to the society through their engagement, their action or their work. Professor at the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the UNamur and virologist at NARILIS, Benoît Muylkens figures amongst the twelve people who have distinguished themselves over the past year. Benoît has been elected "Namurois de l'année" 2020 in the category "Coup de Coeur" for his outstanding efforts to search ways of tackling Covid-19 and to advance diagnostic testing. Since the coronavirus outbreak, he has indeed shown an exemplary professionalism and a high level of commitment in the fight against the pandemic. With the support from many volunteers of the UNamur, he developed in record time the SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic platform SANA. This laboratory has been running Covid-19 tests from March till June 2020 and contributed to expand Belgium’s testing capacity at the beginning of the crisis.
