First clinical prize for NARILIS research student Jenny Jarry at 2022 meeting of AVEF

Jenny Jarry is a highly motivated veterinary student from the UNamur who dedicates time for research during her bachelor’s degree. As a research student under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Michel Vandeweerd, she is working on the development of 3D-printed equine orbital implants. In equine veterinary medicine, enucleation is a surgical procedure performed in the context of severe ophthalmic pathologies. The placement of an orbital implant can be considered to improve the aesthetic appearance of the horse. The goal of Jenny’s work is to determine the feasibility of 3D printing and fixation of an orbital implant, custom-made and financially affordable, following myoconjunctival enucleation.

Thanks to a travel grant offered by NARILIS, Jenny Jarry was given the opportunity to take part and to present her research at the annual meeting of the AVEF (Association Vétérinaire Équine Française) which took place in November 2022 in Reims. Her poster and short oral communication entitled “Étude préliminaire de développement et impression 3D d’un implant orbitaire équin“ were awarded the first prize in the “clinical” category. The UNamur department of Veterinary medicine and NARILIS congratulate her for her excellent work!
