Green Day : Towards sustainable labs at the UNamur
On the 18th of February 2025, researchers from UNamur’s Department of Biology and Faculty of Medicine came together for a “Green Day” to raise awareness about the sustainability initiative supported by Campus Namur Durable (CaNDLE), which was launched in January 2024. The aim of this initiative is to reduce waste, increase recycling and decrease energy consumption in wet labs and across the university.
A working group with representatives from each unit, led by Alison Forrester and supported by Frederic Silvestre, has drawn up a list of actions to make lab practices more sustainable.
The Green Day showcased the many changes that have already been implemented by unit representatives, and outlined the upcoming changes planned at laboratory and university level.
This initiative, along with the Green Day, is a collaborative effort involving researchers, the Department of Infrastructure and Campus Management (SIGeC), and the Department of Prevention (SerP), demonstrating a shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
