Inauguration of the new bioimaging facility at UNamur

On the 15th of March 2023, Prof. Henri-François Renard and Prof. Alison Forrester introduced the new advanced bioimaging tools available at UNamur to a broad audience of users. The inauguration event opened with a seminar and was followed by a guided tour of the microscopy facility and a drink to celebrate the installation of the new equipment.

The recent acquisition of this unique and cutting-edge light microscopy equipment was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Francqui Foundation, the FNRS, the Walloon Region and the European Commission. The new instruments are part of the UNamur Morph-Im platform (Morphology & Imaging) and include classical confocal, super resolution Airyscan confocal, azimuthal TIRF, STED nanoscopy and lattice light-sheet microscopy. And there is more to come in 2023! The portfolio will soon be further expanded, in particular with high-throughput imaging and additional nanoscopy devices. Altogether, this broad spectrum of technologies offers a wide range of solutions and applications: spatial resolutions up to the nanometer scale, live-cell imaging, 3D/4D volumetric imaging, cell surface imaging, high-content imaging, analysis of thick samples…

An experienced team ensures the smooth operation of the bioimaging equipment and provides training as well as scientific and technical guidance to users for high-quality data acquisition and analysis: Prof. Henri-François Renard and Prof. Alison Forrester (PIs), Dr. Benjamin Ledoux (research logistician) and Catherine Demazy (technician). The facility is not only open to UNamur researchers but is also accessible to external research groups from academia and private companies, either in the form of service provision or collaboration.
