NARILIS research students in veterinary medicine are publishing!

Since several years, veterinary students at the UNamur are given the opportunity to get involved in some of the research projects of the department. Their work is valuable and often leads to publications! This year again is particularly rich in communications in which students are first author or co-author.

Five research students under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Michel Vandeweerd were implicated in the production of manuscripts: Céline Leurquin and Fabien Barbe with “Use of intravitreal injection of gentamicin in 71 horses with equine recurrent uveitis” in Equine Journal of Veterinary Sciences; Erika Rejas with “Communication between the distal interphalangeal joint and the navicular bursa in the horse at Computed Tomography Arthrography” dans Anatomia Histologia Embryologia; Julie Botman with “Post-anaesthetic effects of ketamine-midazolam and ketamine-medetomidine on gastrointestinal transit time in rabbits anaesthetised with isoflurane” in The Veterinary Record and Charles de Chaisemartin with “Le biais de publication : réflexion sur un cas de fracture comminutive de la phalange proximale" in Pratique Vétérinaire Equine. With this work, Charles was awarded the third prize at the clinical case competition of the AVEF Junior 2019 (French Equine Veterinary Association).

Moreover, two students contributed to book chapters: Laura Masciulli with “Anatomie de l’oeil” and Clarisse D’Août with “Outils diagnostiques et thérapeutiques » in the Guide pratique d’ophthalmologie équine, recently published by Med’Com.

In July, three research students presented their research findings at the annual meeting of the Young Generation of Veterinary Anatomists (YGVA). Jérémy Meirsman presented a poster communication around “Magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography and elastography anatomy of healthy flexor tendons in sheep”, while Charles de Chaisemartin and Hélène Orliac were presenting a poster on “Ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging anatomy of the ovine digit”. These studies were conducted in collaboration with the Department of Diagnostic imaging of the CHU UCL Namur (Prof. Françoise Kayser and Prof. Jean-François Nisolle).
