Régis Hallez appointed "NARC fellow" 2019 by the UNamur

At the beginning of this academic year, the UNamur appointed Dr. Régis Hallez as a Namur Research College (NARC) Fellow. This appointment acknowledges his outstanding research achievements in the field of molecular microbiology and bacterial genetics and comes in recognition of the Incentive Grant for Scientific Research (Mandat d'impulsion scientifique - MIS) that he received from the F.R.S.-FNRS in December 2018.

Régis Hallez is leading the research group “Bacterial Cell cycle and Development”, established within the Research Unit in Biology of Microorganisms (URBM). His research focus on the (p)ppGpp alarmone, a regulatory system which enables bacteria to respond and adapt to stressful conditions in order to survive. This work will lead to a better understanding of bacterial virulence and survival mechanisms, and is expected to help developing new strategies to defeat pathogenic bacteria.

Régis Hallez's NARC fellowship started on 1 October 2019 for a period of 2 years. His mentor will be Urs Jenal, microbiologist and professor at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.
