Romanian Ambassador visits UNamur life sciences facilities

On February 22, 2022, Andreea Pastarnac, Ambassador of Romania in Belgium, visited UNamur research facilities in the field of life sciences. She was accompanied by her economic adviser and a provincial delegation of Namur led by the Governor Mr. Denis Mathen. This meeting took place as part of a wider visit to the Province of Namur.

The Ambassador's visit included a special welcome by UNamur Rector Annick Castiaux, who presented our University, its strengths, cutting-edge research and expertise. The guests were then invited for a tour of a number of research infrastructures. Several NARILIS researchers welcomed the delegations in their laboratories and showcased high technology equipment. The Technology Platform of Life Sciences (PTSV) was presented by Prof. Jean-Michel Vandeweerd and Dr. Roxane Dewrée. Prof. Anne-Catherine Heuskin showed UNamur unique irradiation facilities dedicated for radiobiological research. The visit continued by the presentation of the Biosafety Level 3 (BL3) lab by Prof. Xavier De Bolle, a high biological security area where researchers can handle classified level 3 pathogen organisms. Finally, Prof. Henri-François Renard put forward remarkable high-resolution fluorescence microscopes, which are powerful tools for performing live-cell multi-color imaging and visualizing dynamic cellular events.
