Successful PhD Student Day celebrating the remarkable achievements of doctoral students from LIBST and NARILIS

On 23 May 2023, PhD students from LIBST (UCLouvain) and NARILIS (UNamur) came together for an exceptional day in Namur. The event served as a platform for cross-university exchange and was a great opportunity to showcase the achievements of our doctoral candidates in the field of life sciences. The program of the day included oral presentations by 27 PhD students, who shared their latest research findings and innovative developments. Moreover, 45 doctoral students presented their work in the form of posters. Two highly interactive poster sessions allowed them to discuss and to gain feedback from other researchers. See program.

The jury, composed of members from both institutes, awarded prizes to four PhD students for their remarkable presentations.

Awards for Best Oral Communications went to

- Maxime Laurent, PhD student at UCLouvain in the team of Prof. François Chaumont, for his short talk entitled “Identification and characterization of transcription factors regulating aquaporin gene expression”.

- Christoph Schifflers, enrolled in a joint PhD programme at UNamur (Prof. Carine Michiels) and DKFZ (Prof. Angelika Riemer), for his short talk entitled “Regulation of the PD-L1 immune checkpoint by irradiation in head and neck cancer”.

Awards for Best Poster Presentations were awarded to

- Laura Pirard, PhD student at UCLouvain in the team of Prof. Cathy Debier, for her poster was entitled "Persistent organic pollutants decrease ex vivo lipolysis of precision-cut adipose tissue slices from pig”.

- Hélène Marlier, enrolled in a joint PhD programme at UNamur (Prof. Florence Chainiaux) and UMons (Prof. Anne-Emilie Declèves) for her poster entitled “Development of a model of renal cell senescence”.
